Birch Creek Charcoal Kilns pt 1

Afternoon at the kilns
8/7/22

Driving home from Missoula on ID 28 I planned to swing over to the Birch Creek Charcoal Kilns. I spotted this Osprey nest on the north end of the valley close to Baker

It’s about a mile on a dirt road to get from ID 28 to the Kilns.

You can see the difference in the heights of the trees on this mountain. The kilns were fueled by the trees on this mountain. That line marks where the logging stopped.

There is a parking lot with trail access to the kilns. Today the shrubberies were blooming and covered with butterflies.
